Description
This vintage 1950s Seiberling Tire ashtray features a realistic rubber tire with a removable glass insert, once given away as a promotional item to showcase the company’s brand. A classic piece of automobilia, it reflects Seiberling’s mid-century legacy as a respected American tire manufacturer.
History
The Seiberling Tire & Rubber Company was founded in 1921 by Frank A. Seiberling, who had earlier co-founded Goodyear. Based in Barberton, Ohio, the company quickly grew into a respected name in the tire industry, known for producing durable and affordable products. During World War II, Seiberling supplied tires for military vehicles, further strengthening its reputation. By the 1950s and 60s, the company was well-known for innovative designs and strong marketing campaigns, often giving away promotional items like tire ashtrays. In 1965, Seiberling was acquired by Firestone, and while the brand name later faded in the U.S., it remains remembered as a significant player in American tire history.
